How Matt got into CrossFit is unique compared to many. Deployed serving 1 of 4 tours in the US Army, he started CrossFit in 2012 with a bunch of broken down equipment in Afghanistan. He got his L1 Certification in 2014 and has coached at various gyms since, having started at Lando Canal Park (since moved to Charlestown) and been part time throughout his educational pursuits at MIT.
Before coming to Boston Matt proudly served in the US Special Forces flying helicopters, earning many awards and medals. Coming from the Citadel, he went on to spend 10 years in the United States Army until medically retired as a Major in 2015. He started as an Apache pilot and platoon leader in the 101st Airborne Division until being selected to serve in Special Operations. In Special Ops he was a Chinook Pilot and platoon leader, executive officer, and company commander of the 160th Aviation Regiment in Fort Lewis, WA. He has earned and been awarded an impressive amount of honors. The most distinguished of these being the Trojan Labor American Hero Award, a Distinguished Flying Cross, 5 Air Medals with 2 being with Valor, a Bronze Star, and numerous others during his 4 tours during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Matt is Currently a 2nd year MBA student at MIT Sloan school of management.
